Skyfall

As a Bond fan, of the books and more recent Bond, Daniel Craig, Skyfall was a masterpiece.  Now, I don't consider myself a classic Bond fan, but I have seen Sean Connery's Bond and am familiar with him as Bond best of all.  Skyfall had elements of what made Classic Bond, well, Classic Bond, including the opening theme's sound. Adele's rich vocals gave it shape and soul.  Much like Casino Royale, the opening credits was a visual feast, beautiful and vibrant and it helps set the overall tone for the rest of the film.

This is the darkest Bond has ever been and very poignant to today's day and age.  Unlike the previous films for Craig's Bond, Skyfall is not named for a short story or based on anything in the books/short stories.  Instead, it seems to follow a trend with Craig's Bond, which is far more psychological and character exploratory than being a flashy spy film.  It's gritty and dark and oh so much more than expected.  But, like every good Bond film, it has a compelling story, beautiful women and some amazing action scenes.  Skyfall also nods to past Bond films, while it continues to look to the future.

The one disappointment about Skyfall was, who was the Bond girl?  Naomi Harris' character, the lovely field agent, Eve, seemed to be the obvious choice.  Confident, beautiful and strong, she and Bond have chemistry that sizzles.  She is an intriguing character and one that I enjoyed.  There was another girl, Sévérine, who was a little more of your classic Bond woman, beautiful and glamorous with an air of mystery.  It reminded me of Quantum of Solace, the two Bond girls, the same basic character structure in a way.

The main villain was striking, unlike others in Craig's era, he's a more sympathetic character, unlike Greene or Le Chiffre.  He's also a more psychological villain and rather compelling.  Played by Javier Bardem, Silva, was perhaps the most human out of all of the reboot's villains.  I certainly enjoyed the character for his purpose and directness.

I honestly recommend seeing Skyfall, especially if you have enjoyed Bond films or enjoy a good action film with a deeper meaning.  The best thing about Skyfall was, you can watch it and enjoy it, even if you haven't seen Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace.  But for Bond fans, it may tear your heart a little.  It is an emotional ride.

:D))) I was curious to know what you thought :D

absolutely amazing isn't it? I totally agree with you. And yes the Bond Girl was kinda weird, especially Severine that seems to be there just to die afterwards she could be interesting to keep alive. Loved Eve and was so happily surprised when I realized she was Moneypenny :D Ans such chemistry between those two!

I've watched it twice already, and thinking on going on a third :)))

I may see it again. And god, I cried.

I think Bond saw Sévérine a lot like Vesper. Beautiful, mysterious and stuck in a bad situation.

God, I cried too. My friends were looking at me, like, "there she goes again"... but seriously, it was just so sad. I just couldn't stop myself.

Well, Bond has a thing for that type of women, but I really wish they hadn't killed her so soon.

lol, I only saw it once and my friend understood my pain. So I was lucky. And then I watched ER the next day and that killed me.

He does and I suppose by killing her off so soon preserves the mystery.

I was wondering what was going on with you. Yay! You made it. :) And watching movies too. This is a great review. I had no idea James bond was coming out with a new film until it was JUST about to open. :D
I'm glad your safe and Happy Belated Birthday!

I've been around. Things have been hell. I've been mostly watching ER because of Alex Kingston and yeah. Because of everything, I have not been on top of James Bond things and had no idea about the release date either. I thought it was opening on the 23rd and then heard the Tuesday of the release week that it was opening on the 9th

And thanks.
